Set Sail on the Disney Fantasy Cruise Ship

Rounding out our virtual vacation series, today we’re sailing the high seas on the Disney Fantasy cruise ship. The Fantasy is the newest ship in the Disney Cruise Line fleet, and is absolutely beautiful.

We cruised on the Disney Fantasy last summer, and my daughter made a video of our voyage. I think she did an exceptional job of capturing the essence and the magic of a Disney cruise, even if she is an amateur videographer. She is a teenager, so it is done from a teen’s perspective. But it is sure to make you smile. So click on the video below to join us on a virtual vacation on a Disney Fantasy cruise.

Let the Cruise Begin!

The day we boarded the Disney Fantasy started out lovely, but quickly turned stormy. Like an absolute deluge stormy. But that is Florida in the summer. The decks were so wet the Sail A Way party was moved indoors, into the Atrium. However, the Sail A Way party is filled with excitement and anticipation no matter where it is held. So we sang and danced with Mickey and the gang, and waved goodbye to Port Canaveral.

A very wet deck as the skies opened shortly after we boarded the Disney Fantasy.

By the next day the rain had stopped, and it was time to hit the pool deck! I love to sit by the pool and read. The kids hit the pools. And all the fast food along side the pools. Chicken strips, anyone?

Our Cabin on the Disney Fantasy Cruise Ship

I absolutely loved our cabin. It was the first time we had stayed in a Deluxe Family Oceanview Stateroom. This stateroom was extra long and had a Murphy bed in addition to the convertible sofa. Having those extra square feet was wonderful! The pictures below show the inside of our cabin. The first is from the porthole looking towards the hallway, and the second is from the door looking in. We were on Deck 8, so it was a quick trip up to Cabanas and the drink station. I love having a porthole so we can watch the sea. And this porthole is big enough to sit in!

The Food!

Being 3 short flights down from the drink station was such a blessing for us. We were up there day and night. Luckily, the drink station is open 24/7. You can see one of the drink stations right behind my beautiful daughter in the photo below. (Yes, the daughter that made the video.) There are paper cups available at the drink stations, but we always bring our own refillable cups. This time we even brought our own reusable metal straws.

While my kids prefer to sleep in, I always get up for a sit-down breakfast on the ship. Yes, that’s a lot of food for one person, but this was the first day. And half the fun of taking a cruise is the food, right? 🙂 Don’t you just love the Mickey head built into the plate?

Hands down, our favorite place on the Disney Fantasy cruise ship was Sweet On You, an onboard ice cream shop designed like a vintage ice cream parlor. They serve sundaes in Mickey Mouse or Minnie Mouse souvenir “cups”, pictured below. That is my actual sundae in the picture. It was sooooo good. They also sell ice cream in cones and other sweets. Yes, I said sell. The treats in Sweet on You are not included with your cruise. There is an extra charge. But they are worth every penny!

Castaway Cay

The highlight of any Disney cruise is a stop at Disney’s private island, Castaway Cay (pronounced “key”). With its white sand beaches and clear blue water, Castaway Cay is truly paradise. Just don’t forget the sunscreen!

And since everyone in the family is over 18 now, we were able to go to Serenity Bay, the spectacular beach just for adults. Serenity Bay is calmer, quieter, and the lunch is better, too! People think that Disney is just for kids, but they provide an amazing cruise experience for adults as well.

Thanks for coming along on our virtual vacation on the Disney Fantasy cruise ship. We hope you enjoyed the trip! We’ll leave you with this friendly lobster towel animal (well in this case, blanket animal) that greeted us in our cabin on the last night of our cruise. As Mickey says “See you real soon!”
